Texas: No one should be driving after 8 drunk driving convictions!

Donald Middleton received life in prison on his 9th drunk driving conviction. His blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, and he crashed head on into a 16-year-old driver. Middleton should not have been able to amass nine drunk driving convictions.

The laws that allowed Middleton to keep driving after eight drunk driving convictions desperately need to change. States like New York have more sensible punishments. In NY State, three or more drunk driving convictions within 10 years can result in the permanent revocation of a driver's license. Although Texas does punish drunk drivers with fines, and prison time, Texas does not have a similar law for extreme repeat offenders.

We demand that Texas lawmakers ensure that penalties prevent drunk drivers, like Donald Middleton, from endangering the public. Drivers should not be permitted to receive a 4th drunk driving conviction, let alone a 9th. Texas needs to adopt the drunk driving laws of NY state, and revoke driver's licenses after a third drunk driving conviction.

Sign this petition to convince Texas lawmakers to make the roads safe from intoxicated drivers.
