In addition to help from the public and a new investigator, advanced DNA and fingerprint technology could help investigators solve these crimes.

"With new technologies that been coming out, we know there are more cold cases that we need to look at and see if these technologies can solve some of these cases.

Cases like Lani Smith and Patrick Jones. Their bodies were found on Windsor Spring Road in 1988. Both were shot in the head. That same year, Nathaniel Brown and Marcus Proctor were also found shot in the head in a Toyota Pickup Truck on Lovers Lane off Sand Bar Ferry Road.

Investigator Mark Dobbins is hoping with more than 20 years gone by, someone may be willing to come forward.

"Individuals aren't afraid to tell and may no longer be friends and once they get wind they might go ahead and call," said Dobbins.

Investigators say with the latest technology they're hoping to give families much needed closure

AUGUSTA, Ga. - They're cold cases getting new life. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office has created a department solely dedicated to solving these crimes. Some of these cases date back almost two decades.
