The Armenian Genocide began, through forced deportations on April 24, 1915, and lasted until 1923, resulting in 1.5 million deaths. Perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks, the modern Turkish government denies the genocide. The U.S. government has yet to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
