As all of you may know the CIA has a strict attendance policy. For those of you who don't, in simplest terms, if you do not attend class, you receive a 0 for the day. This is a petition in attempts to bring change to this policy. It is unjust to student who have valid excuses (such as health issues, funeral, wedding, etc.) to suffer these consequences. We are petitioning for a new attendance policy that does not harm these students. For example, if Tim misses a class due to a health condition, and he has a valid excuse from a Doctor or the school nurse, Tim should then receive no grade for that day. Meaning it doesn't benefit nor harm Tim. Some may argue that kids will take advantage of this and not show up for classes, however students would need remediation in order to receive this new policy. The school can also discuss ways to limit the amount of times each students is able to do this. The CIA is a great school with a great culinary program, however this rule sets students up for failure and should be abolished and remade. Please sign and share in attempts to better our education.
