India: Crackdown on False Emu Farm Advertising

Susi Emu Farms India Private Limited in Perundurai convinced thousands of farmers that just 20 emu chicks could start a successful farming venture. By using false advertising and "freebies" promoting the nonexistent emu farming market, they tempted farmers into thinking they'd stumbled upon a revolutionary new form of agriculture.

More than 20,000 investors bit before Director MS Guru absconded with their money.

The business boasted  a successful business model in their emu farm investment scheme. Using a two-year buy-back plan, they duped the public into believing there was a high demand for emu meat, oil, and leather.

Susi distributed hundreds of thousands of emu chicks, neglecting to mention that no processing facilities for emu parts existed.

There is no excuse for false advertising endangering these now neglected emus, or allowing so many Indian farmers to go bankrupt.  Tell the ASCI to crack down on false advertising for dangerous farming schemes.

Dear Advertising Standards Council of India Chairman I Venkat,

The recent emu farming scheme that duped thousands of investors has not only left farmers bankrupt, but has also endangered the lives of over 100,000 emus. I firmly believe this scam could have been avoided if the ASCI monitored false farm advertisements more closely.

I demand that you do everything in your power to stop any other farmers from investing in emu farming and address future false advertising in a more efficient fashion.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
