Remove Confederate Monument

The NAACP Branch of Robeson County has begun a petition to remove the Confederate monument from the premises of the county  court house, and ask for your support by signing this petition.

Confederate monuments are being removed across the country, and it's time to remove the one in Robeson County. Some say these monuments are a part of history and heritage, but others see them as representations of oppression, division, and racism.  Therefore, our county officials should be concerned about what this monument represents, and remove it from the premises of our county court house.

First, our county court house should be a place of "justice for all," but the monument sends a message saying the opposite -- that our court house is not a place of "justice for all." This must stop!

Secondly, "there's a direct relationship between symbols and systems," says David Adjaye, chief architect of the Smithsonian Museum for African American History in Washington DC.

Therefore, Confederate monuments are not mere memorials from yesterday, they are symbols that seek to continue an unjust system to oppress the people today.

We must not allow this monument to remain. It's time for action. Please, sign this petition to send a message to our County Commissioners. "Remove The Monument Now!"

PS. Also, please send to leobarnwell@yahoo.com, your name, email, and phone number for follow-up information.  And share this message with others.  Thanks.
