We are all teenagers. Most of us can agree that we don't get enough sleep. Studies show that an average teenager needs 8-10 hours of sleep to function at our peak. We all have reasons. Whether its homework, clubs or sports, a lot of us don't get enough sleep. I propose that students should be offered rooms STRICTLY for napping. A lot of people may say that you can sleep in the nurses if you need to, but there's a problem with that. Nobody wants to sleep in a room filled with sick people. Under section 504, all students must be offered the same access and ability to all that the classroom has to offer. Section 504 is a part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that prohibits discrimination based upon disability. Their definition of disability follows the IDEA's definition. Their definition of disability is as follows: To be protected under Section 504, a student must be determined to: have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities; or. has a record of such an impairment." The physical impairment is homework, and the major life activity is sleep. We deserve access to a good nights sleep. I propose that the school designates a room for needy students. They talk to their counselor and prove that they need more sleep. If a student misbehaves, then they are not allowed back in.
