The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service recently removed Guardian (wolf M1396) from his mate and pups in the Gila National Forest in New Mexico. Guardian is the alpha of the Luna group, and his loss threatens the progress of the Mexican gray wolf recovery program, which was just starting to see some gains.
With as few as 97 Mexican wolves in the wild, it's hard to see why Guardian was trapped and removed from the wild simply for killing livestock to feed his starving pups and mate. Ranchers in the area share much of the blame for the loss of their animals, as they were not removing carcasses that wolves did not kill, which led to scavenging, which led to depredation.
Sign the petition and urge the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to release Guardian back into the wild immediately to help his pack and the overall population survive!

Still no word on whether or not Guardian has been release, let alone if he is even still alive or not... but I refuse to give up! Planning another round of calls and emails and letters/petitions soon - but can I count on your support again? Please? For the Luna pack!

This petition has been featured on several news stations in Albuquerque, New Mexico and has really stirred a lot of people up. It is almost time to send this petition out but giving 1 last push for more signatures!
