SAVE our School...Ocean View Elementary...Give us a Vice Prinicipal....please!

2 years ago the East Whittier City School District Board of Education made a decision to place Mr. Strand and Mrs. Songer at Ocean View for approximately 2 years with the idea of phasing out Mrs. Songer's position as an assistant to Mr. Strand. This was done in hopes of strengthening the trust of parents, students and staff, as well as providing a stellar team of administrators who would come alongside our Ocean View staff after losing our previous principal, which was very difficult and traumatic for our entire community. While the district believes they were doing the right thing and notified the staff and administrators of this plan when implemented, the parent and student community were not privy to this information. This has been shocking and frustrating for the parent community. Not only that, but it will be a difficult transition for the entire staff at OV causing additional stress, jobs and expectations placed on Mr. Strand and staff. We are asking that the district reconsider their decision and keep a position open at Ocean view to provide Mr. Strand with the assistance that any principal needs to effectively run an elementary school as large as Ocean View. Please join us in our efforts to be heard, seen and recognized as an important part of the ocean view community.
