Re-purpose Calhoun statue base and column -- don't remove it

The City of Charleston is considering removing the base and column of the Calhoun memorial, now that the statue is gone. This would occur at taxpayer's expense and destroy a highly symbolic opportunity for Charleston residents to erect a unifying symbol, such as the peace dove or the eternal flame. Sign this petition to let City Council know that you support keeping the base and column in Marion Square.
