Drop Charges Against Eco-Friendly Dad Who Charged Electric Car at Son's School

Kaveh Kamooneh told an Atlanta news station he never had trouble plugging in his electric car anywhere around town. That is, until he plugged it in at his son’s school during a tennis lesson.

For that, a Chamblee Middle School police officer had him arrested, and he spent 15 hours in jail, even after he paid the bail.

Kamooneh admitted to ABC News that he’d used the school’s outlet a few times before, but he doesn’t think it used more than pennies worth of the school’s power, which is far less, he pointed out, than free water drunk from the school’s fountains and much less than the cost of dirty air caused by the police officers’ cars.

In fact, it might have been Kamooneh‘s comment about the dirty air that put him in jail. Whatever was said, you’d think the city of Chamblee would be more supportive of those who save us all money and give us cleaner air by driving electric cars.

Tell Chamblee to drop the charges against this eco-friendly dad.

We, the undersigned, say the City of Chamblee should be more supportive of those who drive electric cars.

Kamooneh says he’d asked permission of other businesses in town before using the school’s outlet, and they had told him to go ahead and even wondered why he’d bothered to ask. So that’s why he didn’t think anything of plugging in at the school while his son was taking tennis lessons.

The electric car owner also said he found the school officer sitting inside his car, and when Kamooneh asked the officer what he was doing, the officer wouldn’t explain. Then later, according to reports, the police department insinuated that Kamooneh had been arrested because he had not been polite to the officer.

Whatever took place between the school officer and Kamooneh, certainly arresting him is costing the county far more than a little electricity. It actually could cost the school as much as $4 for someone to completely charge an electric car, but why not just ask Kamooneh to pay the costs rather than arrest him?

Furthermore, Kamooneh was not just showing up at the school to use the power outlet, his was there to support his son’s participation in a sports activity.

For all that Kamooneh is doing right, he deserves at least a break from the Chamblee Police.

We ask the Chamblee Police Department to drop the charges against this eco-friendly dad.
