Petition against new meal plan for York University
York is thinking of implementing a new meal plan for next year in partnership with the company Aramark. This plan involves the construction of two large cafeterias in complex 1 (the Winters dining hall) and in another location in complex 2. While these cafeterias will be offering a wide variety of fresh foods (including vegan and vegetarian alternatives) and as much of it you want per visit, they will also be implementing these restrictions:
-No food is to be taken out of the cafeteria
-You can ONLY use your meal card at the two cafeteria locations on campus
-The facility closes at 10 pm
Along with this, the MINIMUM meal plan will be $3,700 which allows for 15 meal uses per week (you can only access the facility 15 times per week) so if you want a coffee, you're going to pay something like $10.00 for it, and that's one of your 15 uses. Also, they are offering a $4,000 meal plan which offers unlimited usage of the facilty, and another plan somewhere in between the two ($3,800?) which offers more lenience then the $3,700 plan.
OH BUT WAIT! Since we are all rich students with money to spare, we do have the option to add flex dollars onto our already ridiculously expensive meal plans so that we can use our meal card at other locations here at York :).
If you feel that this is unreasonable I implore you to sign the petition and tell everyone whom you know that will be affected by this. I just want everyone to be aware of what could happen and have the chance to voice their opinions
We the undersigned wish to voice our concerns on the new meal plan proposal which could take place in the near future. As members of York University, and others affiliated with the university, we believe that the implementations which are being proposed would not be entirely beneficial to those of us here at York University for the following reasons:
-student space would be severely impacted -financially, this new plan would not better serve a large number of students -the stipulations that are being pressed upon us for terms of use of the dining halls are not practical to university students
Please reconsider your plans for the near future. It has been made very clear by a large number of students, staff, and other members affiliated with the university that this plan is not something that we want.
