Save Our Car Parking Spaces - All of Them - Earlham Park, Norwich, UK

  • van: Sandi George
  • ontvanger: Norwich City Council/University of East Anglia

Norwich City Council have been gradually selling off areas of Earlham Park, Norwich, mainly to the University of East Anglia for development.
This land together with Earlham Hall, was given to the Citizens of Norwich by the Gurney Family.
The latest development is that the Norwich City Councillers approved plans for further developments by the UEA.  They have also have given (at a cost, it is understood), the car parking spaces that are used by the public, over to the UEA to manage on a 70-80year lease.
This petition endeavours to alert the the powers that be that we are tired this continual trend and selling off of our Park and taking away our precious parking spaces.
We need more rather than less and the mere fact that the Council have recently erected red and white bollards to prevent parking on the grass verges must reflect this.
The UEA should incorporate within their plans, adequate parking and not rely on using ours 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.
The Citizens of Norwich together with anyone else who wants to enjoy the diversity of the Park and surrounds, should be able to do this without being anxious about parking or parking illegally. The latter most certainly will envolve  having to cross a major road. A child has already been killed doing the latter and we do not want to add to this count.
Just retain our parking spaces NOW and stop selling off OUR LAND.
