Campaign to Stop Double-Cupping at Tim Hortons

Support the campaign to stop double-cupping at Tim Hortons!

Nearly 3500 Tim Hortons stores operate across North America today, and each day, unnecessary amounts of waste are produced when one hot drink is served in two cups.

Paper cups aren't likely to disappear anytime soon (and vast numbers of consumers aren't likely to begin toting travel mugs with them overnight), but Tim Hortons can take positive action to reduce waste now by introducing corrugated paper sleeves for their hot drinks.

A Tim Hortons representative was quoted in 2008 stating that paper sleeves are not in use by the fast food giant because they are perceived as "too trendy." This explanation is senseless and superficial. Paper sleeves make good environmental and economic sense - just ask Starbucks.

Further, Tim Hortons largely skirts accountability for this issue by asking customers to take primary responsibility for waste reduction initiatives in its stores. While consumers should be proactive, Tim Hortons must hold itself to the same standard.

Please show your support for the double-cup issue by signing this petition! Let's show Tim Hortons that in 2009, being environmentally conscious isn't "too trendy" for its customers, it is essential.
