Petition: A Request for the Non-Separation of Bonded Giant Panda Twins, "He Hua and He Ye"

Dear Leadership of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding,

We, the global community of animal welfare advocates, are writing to respectfully urge you to maintain the social bond between the giant panda twins, He Hua and He Ye.

While we celebrate the incredible conservation successes of the Chengdu Base, we are deeply concerned about the potential separation of these two siblings. Our appeal is based on the following critical welfare grounds:

    1. Vital Social Support for "Special Needs" Care:

Due to He Hua's unique physical limitations, her sibling He Ye has become more than just a companion; she is her vital social anchor. Observations indicate that their relationship provides He Hua with essential psychological security. In the international zoological community, separating such a "bonded pair" is recognized as a significant stressor that can lead to long-term psychological trauma.

     2. A Global Model for Behavioral Management:

The companionship of He Hua and He Ye offers a world-class opportunity to demonstrate "special needs" animal management. By keeping them together, the Chengdu Base can lead the way in showing that conservation is not just about numbers, but about the individual well-being and emotional health of these national treasures.

     3. Aligning with International Expertise:

We also look to international partners like the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, known for their expertise in giant panda behavior, to support this call for a welfare-centered approach. We believe that maintaining this bond aligns with the highest global standards of animal care.

     Our Request:

We respectfully ask the Chengdu Research Base to commit to a non-separation policy for He Hua and He Ye, ensuring they remain together to support each other's well-being.

Let their story continue to be one of resilience, companionship, and world-leading animal welfare.
