Texting/talking while driving is too dangerous to ignore.

Texting/talking while driving is a ongoing threat to the health and welfare of our society as dangerous as driving under the influence and yet it is more common and more tolerated.  Current laws do not seem to have any impact.  Please help make our roads a safer.

Impaired drivers have their cars impounded because they are unsafe and can't be trusted. Why should text/talk drivers be given a ticket and allowed to continue to text/talk when they are just as dangerous? Even though no malice or cruel intent exists there is the terrible potential for grievous harm and even death when wireless devices and motor vehicles are irresponsibly combined. Everyday that potential is being realized. We ask that it be made a federal law that drivers caught texting/talking have their wireless devices impounded so that they will no longer pose a danger to themselves and others. These wireless devices would be held for a period of time, perhaps a week and then be returned after a fine is paid.  Repeat offenders would simply forfeit their devices.  Law enforcement would not have any access to the devices or their information other than for identification. Unclaimed and forfeited devices would be sold at auction.
