demand to end use of credit report to set auto policy rates

  • van: Virginia J
  • ontvanger: washington state insurance commission
ISSUE: Consumer credit report score as basis for setting auto policy rates. This practice should be unlawful. GOAL: Auto insurance companies need to use driving record only to establish policy rates, and the method rates are established must be public knowledge. CONNECTION TO THE CAUSE: High auto policy rates with credit score 552. They are not mortgage companies, we as consumers are not applying for a loan; therefore credit rating is not a factor - plain and simple! Low credit scores can happen unexpectedly; medical, divorce, extended illnesses. Most consumers are most likely unaware of this practice.
