We understand the need to provide sustenance for your animals, and we appreciate the important role zoos play in conservation and education. However, we believe this particular program is ethically problematic and will have a significant negative impact on the Aalborg Zoo's reputation and public trust.
The bond between humans and their domesticated pets is a deeply emotional and cherished one. For many, pets are considered members of the family. The idea of these animals being used as a food source, even for the natural cycle of the animal kingdom, is distressing and goes against the principles of empathy and animal welfare that we expect from a modern zoological institution. This program would cause immense emotional pain to the donating families and would be viewed as insensitive and cruel by the general public.
Furthermore, we are concerned about the precedent this program sets.
