As residents of Ocean Gate, NJ, we want the freedom to walk our leashed pets on the boardwalk. As responsible pet owners we will do everything in our power to always value the health and safety of others in our community. We respect the rights of our neighbors and will pledge to share the boardwalk in such a way as to never interfere with the peace and beauty of our environment.
In order not to interfere with beach goers in the summer months, a time restriction would be implosed. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, dog walking would not be permitted between the hours of 10 AM and 5 PM.
All owners walking their dogs on the boardwalk would be required to comply with the following rules:
1. Dogs must be current on their rabies vaccination. A current tag must be attached to their collar. Municipal police have the right to check the dogs's tags and if they are not current, the dog owner must immediately remove the dog from the boardwalk.
2. Dog owners must clean up after their pet. A fine will be imposed for any owner who does not comply. Municipal police will have the right to issue a ticket for non compliance. We request that clean-up stations be installed and maintained in convenient locations.
Dogs must be kept as quiet as possible. Eccessive barking will not be tolerated. Municipal police will have the right to request that a dog owner remove any dog that exhibits threatening behavior or is deemed a nuisance in any way.
We firmly believe that the right to enjoy our boardwalk should be enjoyed by all the residents of our town. We believe that this change in our ordinance will enhance the happiness of our citizens.
If you are a resident of Ocean Gate, NJ, I would really apprciate it if you could read over my petition and sign if you agree. It seems that many people in town own dogs and are dog lovers, and would love to stroll on the boardwalk with our pets.
