Tell President Obama: Don't Hurt American Charities

Did you know that President Obama is proposing to significantly reduce key tax benefits for donating to charities as part of his FY 2013 budget? This comes at a time when nonprofit organizations desperately need all the funding they can get. If anything, the U.S. should increase incentives for individuals to donate, not reduce them!

Under President Obama's plan, families making over $250,000 and individuals making over $200,000 will see their charitable deductions reduced from 35% to 28%.

As the largest proportion of charitable donations come from these high-income earners, this budget proposal would drastically impact thousands of charities and the Americans that rely on them. We need to support charity efforts in times of struggle, not defund them.

Please sign this petition to support charities and the vital work that they do by telling President Obama and members of Congress that you oppose reducing tax deductions for charitable donations.
In an effort to fund government spending, President Obama's FY 2013 budget includes a proposal that would reduce tax deductions for charitable donations from 35% to 28% for families earning above $250,000 and individuals earning above $200,000.

Charities rely on generosity to provide services to thousands of Americans in need and many would have to drastically cut those services if the government makes it more difficult to donate.

In these harsh economic times, we need to support charity efforts, not defund them. Instead, we should consider cutting down the billions in tax breaks for some of the most profitable corporations, like big oil.

I oppose reducing tax deductions for charitable donations and urge you to stand with nonprofit charities and the Americans that rely on them.
