China: Close Your Coal-Fired Power Plants
China is home to six of the 25 dirtiest power plants in the world, more than any other country on the list.
Simultaneously, China is doing everything it can to take the lead in global markets with their clean energy sector, from selling solar panel companies government land at bargain prices to giving them low interest loans from state banks.
In the name of climate change, it's important for China to support its clean energy sector and create affordable clean energy solutions for the rest of the world, but the country needs to support clean energy on their home front, too.
In their efforts to expand economically, China is falling behind in adhering to environmentally responsible policies. Even though China is a rapidly developing country, they must put forth efforts towards a global solution to global warming.
Urge China to support their clean energy at home as well as in their exports and close their coal-fired power plants.
Dear Mr. Gao Guangsheng,
China is making solar panels and other clean energy options more affordable worldwide. It's good that China is investing its resources in creating anti-global warming energy options, but China is still home to six of the 25 dirtiest power plants in the world. This is more than any other country on the list.
In order for China to fully commit to climate change, it must close the doors of its coal-fired power plants. One coal-fired power plant is bad, but six in the top 25 is entirely too much.
Creating affordable clean energy options is a great step towards committing to climate change, but committing to climate change is about more than just expanding economically. Please set an example for other countries to follow and close the doors of your dirty power plants.
