June's Supreme Court decision is a crucial moment in our fight for equality — one we should rightly celebrate. But we still have a long way to go.
It is still legal to discriminate against LGBTQ+ folks in hospitals, housing, colleges, and far too many other areas. Just a few weeks ago, the federal government finalized rules rolling back health care discrimination protections for transgender people, immigrants, and people who have had abortions — only compounding discrimination for those living at the intersections of those identities. This rule came during Pride Month, and as communities across the country protest America's continued systemic racism, oppression and violence. Transgender folks — particularly Black transgender women — are still disproportionately at risk of fatal violence. Until we put an end to legal discrimination and address systemic violence, our fight for equality and justice is not over.

At Planned Parenthood, we are committed to providing comprehensive care to every single person who walks through our doors, and we're committed to protecting the health of all of our patients. We provide hormone therapy, STI testing, cancer screenings, birth control, and basic exams to our patients in health care settings that affirm their gender identity. This cruel and discriminatory rule will only make it harder for transgender people, immigrants, and people seeking sexual and reproductive services to get care, and could even prevent people from getting the care they need entirely. As we face the dual public health crises of the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism and violence, Planned Parenthood will continue fighting to break down the barriers keeping people from getting the health care they need.
