Tell Congress to invest in climate-smart infrastructure!

Investment in our nation's infrastructure is long overdue. Among other issues, out-of-date water and sewer systems are ill-equipped to withstand increasingly severe rainstorms and flooding; and the U.S. electric grid is vulnerable to disruptions from climate-fueled wildfires and hurricanes. These issues require smart investments that reduce carbon emissions and better prepare people and wildlife from the worsening impacts of climate change.

In many cases, a better and cheaper long-term solution is natural or climate-smart infrastructure. Natural features and ecosystems like forests, wetlands, coastal dunes, wetlands, mangroves and prairies absorb carbon pollution and boost protections against extreme weather, helping wildlife and people alike.

Protecting and restoring our wild and natural infrastructure like coastal dunes will provide wildlife habitat for vulnerable species while buffering coastal communities from storm surge and sea level rise. These systems are essential tools in both fighting climate change and preparing to deal with its effects. Call on your federal leaders to act today to help people and wildlife by prioritizing climate-smart infrastructure!
Congress has an important and meaningful opportunity to help stabilize our rapidly changing climate and to invest in our nation's clean energy, transportation, and natural infrastructure systems to increase community safety and resilience, protect and recover wildlife, boost local economies, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

These investments will benefit every community in America and are a smart insurance policy against costly extreme weather and mounting climate impacts. Additionally, they provide a down payment on the low-carbon economy of the future.

Effectively addressing our infrastructure crisis requires improving equitable access to investment benefits, and ensuring the health and safety of the most vulnerable people and the environment.

Please look for opportunities to improve resilience and reduce carbon emissions significantly through climate-smart infrastructure investments that: 1) boost natural infrastructure and carbon sinks; 2) support carbon-removal and storage technologies; 3) build a clean-power grid; and 4) expand low-carbon transportation.

Sincerely,
