End Childhood Hunger in America!

The number of children fed by Feeding America food banks has increased 50 percent since 2006 to nearly 14 million children each year!

Even worse, four out of five of these children are under five years old. In this land of plenty, this is just not acceptable.

President Obama has pledged to end child hunger by 2015. To make that happen, our legislators must increase funding for important Child Nutrition Programs. Take action: ask Congress to increase funding for emergency food assistance today.

Dear Representative:

I am writing to urge you to support Child Nutrition Reauthorization and increase funding for important Child Nutrition Programs. I am concerned because hunger has long lasting effects on the health, well-being, and development of children. Children under the age of five are especially vulnerable to nutritional deprivation, and their ability to learn, grow, and fight infections is adversely affected.

A nationwide study recently released by Feeding America -- Hunger in America 2010 -- reports that their food bank network is feeding nearly 14 million hungry children every year. That is a 50 percent increase since 2006. President Obama has pledged to end child hunger by 2015, but these staggering numbers tell me that we must do more if we are going to make that pledge a reality.

To end child hunger, we must focus our efforts on improving our government's child nutrition programs -- and with Child Nutrition Reauthorization right around the corner, now is the perfect time to make feeding America's children our highest priority!
