Tell Congress to protect publicly owned trees and our scenic roadways

For decades now, billboard and outdoor advertising companies have been laying waste to America's scenic highways by cutting down publicly owned trees by the thousands – simply to make their advertisements more visible.

As Congress develops infrastructure and highway funding legislation, we have a crucial opportunity right now to ensure that this practice of cutting down trees along our highways for billboard visibility finally comes to an end.

Tell Congress: Ensure that our public trees aren't cut down for the sake of billboards.

Currently, most states allow this type of environmental destruction — bringing eyesores to our highways all across the country. But that's not the only threat posed by this practice. These trees provide precious habitat for native wildlife; when the trees are gone, so is their home.

Some states even allow advertisers to cut up to a 380-yard radius around their billboards. That's nearly the size of four football fields – just for billboard visibility.

Americans want to see the beauty of our roadways, not endless billboards advertising the likes of strip clubs, casinos, liquor companies, and everything else in between.

Add your name to the petition now to help Scenic America urge Congress to protect our scenic roadways.
