Protect Bialowieza Forest and its animals from excessive logging!

The beautiful Bialowieza Forest, spanning parts of both Poland and Belarus, is one of Europe’s oldest forests. This World Heritage site is home to the most wild bison in Europe, as well as many lynxes and wolves. Now it is under threat.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) have expressed concern about a sharp increase in logging in the Polish portion of the forest. The government of Poland has argued that logging is necessary in order to deal with a bark beetle infestation, but Polish scientists reject this claim. Please sign this petition to demand that The UNESCO World Heritage Committee intervene and request that Poland honour logging limits agreed to in 2012. Protect this irreplaceable area!

“The logging plan triples the sustainable limits agreed by Poland and the European Commission in 2012 and now the commission is examining whether the plan is a violation of EU law,” said Dariusz Gatkowski of WWF-Poland. “We are very disappointed that the UNESCO World Heritage Committee has not requested that the 2012 logging limits be upheld. The natural value of this precious site may suffer as a result of today’s decision.”

Please sign this petition, and join us in asking that the UNESCO World Heritage Committee take action to protect Bialowieza Forest and the incredible animals that live in it. Together we can make it clear that the our planet and its remaining natural areas are valuable and worth fighting for.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee

I am writing today to urge you to request that Poland do not exceed 2012's agreed logging limits in the Bialowieza Forest.

This unique area is under threat from increased logging, and scientists have refuted claims that the logging is an appropriate response to a beetle infestation.

Many wonderful animals live in this habitat, and it is a World Heritage site.
