Australian mining companies must uphold the rights of women

Women are disproportionately impacted by mining, facing entrenched poverty, gender-based violence, loss of livelihoods, health problems, and increased unpaid work.

Fossil fuel mining is fueling dangerous climate change, which also impacts on women the most. Australia now has more mining companies than any other country operating in Africa, including many coal, oil and gas projects. We call on the Australian Government to:

• Introduce transparency by requiring companies to report publicly on all their projects
• Ensure justice for mining-affected communities through an independent watchdog
• Provide Government funding and loans to local women-led climate solutions, not fossil fuels
