Protect Communities From Forever Chemicals

The EPA recently proposed designating two PFAS chemicals as hazardous substances, and there is a short window to provide public input on the plan.

These chemicals are known as "forever chemicals'' because they do not break down in our environment, and they are now present in our land, soil, and bodies thanks to irresponsible corporations who knew the threat these dangerous chemicals pose to our health.

Exposure to PFAS has been linked to increased risk of cancer, harm to fetal development, reduced effectiveness of vaccines, and other health issues – with low-income communities and communities of color disproportionately impacted.

Tell the EPA to quickly finalize their proposal to list two PFAS chemicals as hazardous substances.
I'm a supporter of the League of Conservation Voters, and I am deeply concerned about the dangers posed by perfluoroalkyls (or PFAS for short), a category of chemicals used in many industrial settings and consumer products. While these chemicals have been linked to serious health issues, such as cancer and thyroid disease, the federal government has been slow in taking the necessary actions to stop the flow of these dangerous chemicals into our communities.

I am asking you to swiftly finalize the proposal to designate PFOA and PFOS, two of the most well known PFAS chemicals, as a hazardous substances under CERCLA, a critical step in tackling the growing PFAS crisis that is jeopardizing the health of communities all across the country, especially low-income communities and communities of color. By listing these two PFAS as hazardous under Superfund, we can finally begin to hold polluters responsible for poisoning our families and environment with chemicals they knew were dangerous.

I strongly urge you to designate PFOA and PFOS as hazardous substances and hold chemical companies accountable for the damage they have done to our health and the environment.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Sincerely,
[your name]
