Urge Your Senator: Stand up for Kids And Vote YES on Commonsense Vaccine Policy

Colorado ranks last in the nation in kindergarten MMR vaccination rates — the vaccine that protects against measles, mumps, and rubella.

This week, the State Senate will debate SB-163, a commonsense vaccine bill to strengthen vaccine exemption policies. More than 80% of Coloradans already support this bill.

Currently, Colorado law allows for as little as a handwritten note to exempt a child from safe and effective vaccines. This reasonable and widely supported bill will strengthen our extremely relaxed vaccine exemption policy.

SB-163 upholds a parent's right to make decisions for their children while striking a balance to implement sensible public safety measures and protect vulnerable community members. This is a Colorado solution to a uniquely Colorado problem.

This is about protecting the minority of children who cannot be vaccinated or have immunocompromising conditions, like cancer. They deserve to attend safe and healthy schools without fear of contracting vaccine-preventable diseases.

We know that people, even from out of state, who don't like this bill are flooding our Senators with emails and calls telling them to vote no. Our leaders need to know that the vast majority of Coloradans support this bill.

Tell you State Senator to stand up for kids and vote YES on SB-163.
Dear Legislators,

I need you to stand up for kids and vote YES on SB-163! This is a reasonable and widely supported bill to tighten up Colorado's extremely relaxed vaccine exemption policies. Stand with the vast majority of parents and your constituents who believe we should protect vulnerable populations who cannot be vaccinated.

SB-163 upholds a parent's right to make decisions for their children while striking a balance to implement sensible public safety measures. This is a Colorado solution to a uniquely Colorado problem — the lowest in the nation for kindergarten MMR vaccination rates.

I need you to be my voice at the Capitol and strengthen Colorado's exemption process to protect vulnerable community members. We cannot let another session pass without addressing this serious issue. This is about protecting the minority of children who cannot be vaccinated or have immunocompromising conditions, like cancer. They deserve to attend safe and healthy schools without fear of contracting vaccine-preventable diseases.

Please uphold decades of established success with vaccines. I know that some children cannot be vaccinated and this bill ensures they have the right to an exemption. We cannot jeopardize their life by falling behind in our vaccination rates.

Thank you for representing Colorado children, and I urge you to stand up for kids when you vote YES for SB-163 on the floor.

Thank you,
