Save Endangered Grizzly Bears from Jumbo Ski Resort!

Jumbo Glacier Resorts is planning to build a 5500 bed ski resort with hopes to attract between 2000 and 3000 tourists per day. Although Jumbo Glacier Resorts has stated they examined the affects its resort will have on the area Grizzly Bear population and determined there will be little impact; they are using scientific data that is over 15 years old!

According to Michael Proctor, one of Canada's leading grizzly bear experts, bear populations in southern British Columbia and the United States will be significantly jeopardized by this invasive construction.

Using DNA analysis from hair snagging, Proctor found the Purcell grizzly populations are depressed, bringing them "close to or below the threatened population threshold."

Clearly, it is human infringement desecrating the Grizzly population.

Since the British Columbia government granted Jumbo Glacier Resorts the right to construction based on the antiquated assessment we must step forward and ask the British Columbia's Environment Assessment Office to take the new scientific studies into consideration and not renew an environmental assessment certificate for the construction of the resort!

Dear Honourable Christy Clark;

While Jumbo Ski Resorts is planning to build a massive ski resort that will attract 2000 to 3000 tourists per day. While such an endeavor may bring positive economic results, it is very important to weigh this decision with what is good for the environment and its inhabitants: namely the Grizzly Bears.

In addition, on the surface it appears that all of the appropriate studies have been conducted, in reality the decision to grant a certificate was based on a study that was more than 15 years old.

We(the undersigned) respectfully ask you to use the most recent scientific study which clearly indicates construction of Jumbo Ski Resort will destroy the areas Grizzly population and cause a chain reaction that extends into the United States- and not renew the environmental assessment certificate!

Sincerely,

According to keepitwild.ca: "The Jumbo Wild is where grizzly bear science meets grizzly bear spirit. The area has long been revered for its spiritual significance and beauty. To the Ktunaxa Nation, it is known as Qat’muk, home of the grizzly bear spirit. Biologists recognize the area as critical core grizzly bear habitat." Don't let this desecration occur.Please keep sharing and signing!
