Prosecute an animal abuser
On October 26, 2006, a 2 year old wolfdog was turned in by her owner to Darlington County Animal Control for being "mean". The animal was then taken to the Darlington Co. Animal Shelter, who contacted Full Moon Farm to rescue the animal.
It has been revealed that the owner has had the animal for all its life. The dog was last seen by a veterinarian in July of 2005.
FMF's veterinarian treated "Misty" today, for Demodex and Sarcoptic Mange, Chronic Staph Infection, Infection of the neck from the embedded collar, including debriding the wound of necrotic tissue and maggots. Misty is approximately 30 pounds underweight and is also suffering from hookworms. The Vet's report lists all of the above as being "chronic", and the estimated time frame for this neglect is many months.
Please help us bring her abuser to trial.
We the undersigned, hereby request and demand that the former owner of the wolfdog once known as Cheyenne/Chena, of Hartsville, SC, be prosecuted for animal abuse to the fullest extent of the law.
The above animal has suffered from neglect and abuse, resulting in malnutrition, mange, staph infection and wound infection from an embedded collar. The subject animal was denied veterinarian care while under the ownership of Ms. XXXXX, resulting in life threatening illness and injury.
SC Code: Section 47-1-10 states:
(1) "Animal" or "Animals" shall be held to include all living vertebrate creatures, excluding homo sapiens.
SC Code: Section 47-1-40 states:
(B) Whoever tortures, torments, needlessly mutilates, cruelly kills, or inflicts excessive or repeated unnecessary pain or suffering upon any animal, or by omission or commission causes the acts to be done for any of the offenses is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, must be punished by imprisonment of not less than one hundred eighty days and not to exceed five years and by a fine of five thousand dollars.
