Many of the families on the Pakistan - Afghanistan border are refugees twice-over. They were pushed into Pakistan after decades of terrorist activity, and thousands are being forced back into the war-torn country they thought they had left behind. Even as they struggle to provide for their families and fear for their safety, these men and women are determined to see their children get an education.
Many of them live in the border town of Jalalabad, where the Kamp-e Farm School is located. Regrettably, the city's infrastructure has not been able to keep up with the influx of people. Schools especially have been hard hit.
The Kamp-e Farm Hada School serves 3,035 students, roughly half of whom are girls. Every day children sit in the open, without toilets, books, or shelter, in all weather to learn basic skills like reading and math.
