Urge Congress to support DC democracy!

  • van: DC Vote
  • ontvanger: United States Congress
Would you want Congress running your local government?

Congress stripped DC residents of the right to vote for a US Representative and Senator in 1801, leaving the question of DC representation for future leaders to sort out. Now, the 632,000 US citizens living in the District of Columbia raise families, pay full federal taxes, serve in the military and die in wars, yet they do not have voting representation in Congress. In fact, Congress can overturn any law passed by citizens or the local elected leaders, and even dictate how local tax revenue is spent.

Americans in DC deserve the most basic American rights: local autonomy and a vote in Congress.
Dear Member of Congress,

The residents of the District of Columbia are full American citizens who pay taxes and fight and die in wars yet are denied the basic American rights of budget autonomy and representation in Congress.

We urge you to support DC democracy and help to end this inequality.

Sincerely,
