As a bird lover and your constituent, I am writing to ask you to support S 1602/HR 2986, the Better Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Act of 2019. Audubon's latest climate science paints a bleak picture for birds across the country and right here in North Carolina. But it also shows that if we act quickly to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we can help improve the chances for the overwhelming majority of species at risk.
The BEST Act rises to this challenge and will help grow our clean energy economy along the way. In North Carolina, we've already seen the benefits of pro-growth clean energy policy, from job creation to new business investment across the state. The BEST Act will help us take the next step by focusing a Department of Energy research and development program around energy storage, including strategic planning, and setting goals to build up to five public-private demonstration projects for large-scale energy storage within five years. This investment will help create lower-cost and more durable storage solutions that will help reduce emissions while keeping the grid resilient and reliable.
