More Mothers Like Seteyo Deserve High Quality Healthcare

When 19-year-old Seteyo gave birth to her first child, he was born underweight at just three and a half pounds. To add to an incredibly stressful situation, after conducting blood tests, doctors found that Seteyo was infected with malaria.

The young mother was heartbroken, "I was just about to lose my first child and I was so scared. I wondered if it was my diet that made my son underweight."

Fortunately, Seyeto and her son were able to get the help they needed. The Government of Canada has been assisting adolescents, women and children in some of the world's toughest places. Canadian investments have been helping fund life-saving maternal and child health and sexual reproductive health and rights interventions for the most vulnerable.

Thankfully, in June 2019, the Government of Canada boldly locked in its position as a global leader in advancing the health and rights of women, adolescents and children around the globe with a ten-year, $1.4 billion annual investment beginning in 2023. But is up to all of us to reinforce this commitment and ensure more women and children like Seyeto and her son get the help they need.

Sign the petition if you believe that everyone has the right to Canada-quality healthcare, no matter who they are or where they live.
