Congress: Protect Cancer Patients and Survivors

Erin Mobley survived bladder cancer when she was only six years old.

And now, if Congress repeals significant parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without a strong replacement, she could be denied health insurance for the rest of her life.

Erin, a Ph.D. student at the University of Iowa, is only 30 years old.  She’s thriving and excited about her future.

But, her ability to take care of herself – and one day, a family – are in jeopardy.

  • As a cancer survivor, Erin is considered to have a pre-existing condition.  Before the ACA, health insurance companies could deny her coverage because she survived cancer.
  • And, as you’d expect, her cancer treatment and follow-up care weren’t cheap.  With no replacement law, insurance companies could once again re-institute lifetime caps on coverage, ending Erin’s ability to get coverage.

Sign our petition. Let’s make sure Congress knows that any repeal must include a strong replacement that protects cancer patients and survivors, and ensures they won’t experience any gap in their health insurance coverage.
