Tell Providence: Patient Care Must Come Before Corporate Interests

  • van: Equal Access to Care
  • ontvanger: Kevin Klockenga, executive vice president and chief executive, Northern California

With Measures BB and CC, Providence St. Joseph Health affiliates are seeking to buy two community hospitals that serve Sonoma County.

But Providence has a track record of putting religious beliefs and corporate interests ahead of critical care for patients. Staff at multiple Providence hospitals have gone so far as to take votes of no confidence due to concern over patient care and a culture of fear.

What's more consolidation has been linked with driving up the cost of care in communities. Now, more than ever, we can't afford ballooning health care costs.

If Providence is allowed to expand its foothold in California's health care system and doesn't change its ways, we all stand to lose.

Tell Kevin Klockenga, Providence's executive vice president and chief executive in Northern California, that Providence must put patient care first, because we all deserve access to the care we need.

To Kevin Klockenga:

I am signing this petition to ask Providence put patient care first.

Providence has a track record of putting religious beliefs and corporate interests ahead of critical care for patients. Staff at multiple Providence hospitals have gone so far as to take votes of no confidence due to concern over patient care and the creation of a culture of fear. We're concerned that further consolidation may increase the cost of care in our community, as it has done in others.

We need hospitals that are focused on patient care, including prioritizing equal access to high-quality, affordable care for all populations. Providence falls short.

As an executive at Providence, you are in a position to change policies that prioritize corporate interests. I am asking you to put equal access to critical patient care first, today and tomorrow.
