Senate Bill SB6 stands to undermine years of progress made towards inclusion and protection of Transgender rights by punishing schools and local businesses who refuse to force limited bathroom access. Biological sex mandates on bathrooms not only undermines the identity of Transgender Americans, but it feeds into an atmosphere of homophobia and stigma against a legally protected group based on unfounded arguments and fear mongering. Especially in the south, Transgender men and women are made victims of violence and sexual assault on a grotesque scale, yet some lawmakers are ignoring this epidemic and using fear mongering and demeaning rhetoric to paint them as less than citizens. As less than deserving of rights that most never have to consider in question.
