Florida: Don't Sell Out Your State Parks

Florida's state parks belong to the people. But a new proposal would cede some of Florida's most precious natural lands to private contractors so they can develop campgrounds.
The plan would turn over portions of more than 50 state parks, including the ecologically sensitive Honeymoon Island, to private companies. Plans would allow both RVs and tents, dramatically increasing the human impact.
Park lands are the responsibility of rangers and biologists, because, unlike contractors, their main interests are in protecting fragile ecosystems and wildlife -- not maximizing profits.
Not only would it potentially harm the parks themselves, it would also hurt business for existing private campgrounds and RV parks just outside parks.
Tell the Gov. Rick Scott to oppose selling out Florida's parks and exposing them to more environmental dangers.
Dear Gov. Scott,
Florida is home to some of America's most beautiful and unique parks. But the new proposal to open up park lands to private contractors to develop campgrounds would put the parks at serious risk. Please oppose this plan.

There are already plenty of camping options for people who want to visit Florida's state parks, both on park lands where camping is already permitted or at private grounds near parks.
Please put Florida's ecosystems, wildlife and park lands before corporate and business interests and oppose any plans to open up more state park land to private contractors.
