There are only an estimated 180 Florida panthers left on Earth, pushed to slivers of land that total just 5 percent of their historic range. It doesn't have to be this way.
The solution is simple: Florida panthers need habitat, and every piece of land we can conserve is critical to the panther's survival. For more than 50 years, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has protected millions of acres — from prime Florida panther habitat to nearly every county across the U.S.
But unless Congress fully funds LWCF, prime panther habitat like the Everglades Headwaters National Wildlife Refuge & Conservation Area and Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge will continue to go unprotected. And so will hundreds of other important conservation programs that help save species, keep our water clean, and protect nature across the country.
That's why we must push for full funding NOW. These essential programs are at risk.
