Call on Canada to champion strong marine protection!

Canada has the longest coastline and one of the largest ocean territories in the world. It spans the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific, and is home to an incredible diversity of species — from great whales and sharks to deep-sea corals and sponges.

However, less than 15% of Canada's ocean is currently protected, and marine ecosystems and species face extreme pressure from industrial activities like oil and gas development, mining, dumping, commercial shipping and bottom trawling. Worse still, these harmful activities are allowed to continue within some marine protected areas.

We need you to join over 60,000 Canadians — and counting! — who have told the government to protect our ocean in stronger marine protected areas that keep ocean wildlife safe and support healthy ecosystems. Add your voice today!

I call on Canada to protect at least 30% of its ocean estate by 2030 in effective marine protected areas that:

1. Have strong minimum protection standards; prohibiting bottom trawling, oil and gas exploration and exploitation, mining and dumping;
2. Prioritize Indigenous-led conservation and honour the rights of Indigenous Peoples;
3. Protect the most important and vulnerable ecosystems and species; and,
4. Are well funded and effectively managed for long-term conservation benefits.

Momentum to protect Canada's ocean has never been stronger. By signing this pledge, you are helping CPAWS ensure that Canada's vibrant marine wildlife and ecosystems can recover and flourish in strong marine protected areas.
