Tell your mayor to support local parks

Imagine you had no place to get outside and experience nature. No place to breathe fresh air, feel the wind in your hair, or sit under a tree, walk your dog, go for a run, or play a sport. For millions of people in cities across America, this is the reality.

Today, 1 in 3 Americans — more than 100 million people — don't have a park within a 10-minute walk of home.

The benefits of time spent outdoors have been confirmed by science in study after study; people are healthier and happier when they spend time in nature.

That's why The Trust for Public Land is leading a movement to ensure that everyone across the U.S. has a high-quality park or open space within a 10-minute walk of home. More than 200 cities have already signed on, but we need your mayor to join us to help ensure that everyone has access to a close-to-home park, especially where you live.

Tell your mayor to support the movement to ensure that everyone across the U.S. has a high-quality park within a 10-minute walk of home. Your signature, when combined with those of your neighbors, will let your mayor know exactly how you feel about local parks.

Having access to a nearby park is simply a matter of fairness. Some Americans have a park near their home. Others do not. Everyone should share the economic, social, and health benefits of a neighborhood park.

Sign the petition today and ask your mayor to support the movement to ensure that everyone in your city has a high quality park within a 10-minute walk of home.
Dear Mayor,

Thank you for your leadership on parks and open spaces in our city. I am writing to ask that you take the next step and support the 10-Minute Walk Campaign.

Studies show that parks are essential to the physical, social, environmental, and economic health of a community. People who live near a park exercise more, and are therefore healthier than people without a park near their home. City parks and other urban natural areas stimulate the local economy, producing benefits with estimated values of up to $6.8 billion annually.

The Trust for Public Land and its partners are working to help cities improve park access and quality for all of their residents. The mayors of more than 200 cities have already signed on to ensure everyone across the U.S. has a high-quality park or open space within a 10-minute walk of home. I hope you will take the next step to support parks by joining them as well.

Sincerely,
