Valero & Tesoro: Don't Derail California's Green Future

California is emerging as a clean energy leader, thanks in large part to regulations put in place by Assembly Bill 32 (AB 32). This landmark law requires the state to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.
But Texan oil giants Tesoro and Valero want to roll back the state's efforts by delaying implementation of this bill until the state unemployment level dips below 5.5% (which has happened only three times in the past 30 years).
Tesoro and Valero are the largest polluters in California (Valero was named one of the worst polluters in the United States and was fined $711 million by the EPA in 2005) and both companies account for 16.7% of all reported greenhouse gas emissions in California. These over-polluting companies companies have already spent nearly $2 million on an anti-AB 32 campaign.
A delay in the implementation of AB 32 would create more pollution, increase California's dependence on foreign oil, and result in job losses. In fact, green jobs in California are growing 10 times faster than the statewide average but this growth is threatened by Tesoro and Valero.
Take Action Today: Tell Tesoro and Valero to stop impeding California's efforts to control greenhouse gas emissions!
These are challenging economic times for everyone and I am deeply concerned that the delay of the implementation of California Assembly Bill 32 will place undue hardships on my family, my community, the oil and gas industry, and the United States of America.
Simply stated, I believe that the delay in climate change legislation will cost Americans billions of dollars in higher fuel and energy prices, kill jobs, reduce America's competitiveness, and will not deliver the environmental benefits promised. We are counting on you and your colleagues at Tesaro and Valero to stop involvement in the "Voices for Energy" campaign as it will raise energy prices for Americans, jeopardize jobs, and make America less competitive.
