Justice for Matt and Maddie

Matt and Maddie were brought to us as strays over a week ago from someone who found them wandering the streets. As you know no other shelters are open after 9PM, no Vet or Cops would take these dogs in, but RUFF HOUSE NEVER SLEEPS! We were willing to take these two poor neglected pups in late that night. Diane groomed them til 5am that morning because she couldn't bear to leave them in that condition overnight. She wasn’t even finished after 7 hours and needed help the next day from a professional groomer to finish their grooming. We thought they were going to have to be sedated their coats were THAT bad.

They were neglected and matted to the point that they could barely walk or move their heads. Their ears, necks and heads were one big matt and they were covered in fleas.

We reported the dogs to the authorities and local vets who really didn't care and took no report from us. Several days later a very angry man barged into Ruff House’s facility in Oceanside, NY ranting and raving that  these were his dogs yet he didn't even know what color they were. He described them as two small white dogs which clearly they are not. He failed to show proof of ownership, the dogs had no tags or microchips and he had no picture of either dog he was claiming we had. You cannot claim a dog is yours and expect ANY person or shelter to give them to you without PROOF! This man then threatened to beat up 2 of Ruff House Rescues FEMALE volunteers. They demanded he leave Ruff House immediately and the police were called, when the police arrived they refused to make a police report, we were never given a reason why. We later received an unsigned email with only a phone number stating we had this woman’s dogs and they were matted only because they didn't get a chance to groom them “lately” Also in this email, this person states that she took the dogs from a dying woman a couple of weeks prior and the woman had since died, so really THEY stole dogs from someone else. We were also told they live outside and that’s why they were matted. The next day the alleged owners came in again threatening harm to my volunteers AGAIN. Still showing no proof of ownership, we refused to give them the dogs. BUT the Detectives from the 4th precinct in Nassau County, NY took their word for it and arrested Diane Indelicato, the owner of Ruff House Rescue for “Possession of stolen property”, when they should have listened to us and arrested the “alleged” owners for ANIMAL CRUELTY! A true travesty of justice....

We are here to protect the DOGS. We put the dogs in a safe location and STILL these people have NOT produced proof of OWNERSHIP of these dogs, nor did they have them registered or micro-chipped.

These dogs will be in trouble if they have to live the rest of their lives with these SAVAGE PEOPLE....

WE, AS A RESCUE GROUP, DO WHAT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF DOGS AND CATS AND IF YOU HAVE NO PROOF OR OWNERSHIP OF YOUR DOGS AND YOU HAVE NEGLECTED OR ABUSED THEM YOU SHOULDN'T GET THEM BACK! WHO ELSE WOULD BE THERE VOICE IF IT WASN'T FOR RESCUE? NO ONE!
