Lend Your Support for Innovative Connectivity in Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda

Reliable connectivity is more important today than ever before. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have transitioned to working from home, our children are learning remotely, and internet speeds are impacted by the sheer number users working, learning, and video streaming. Some of the changes we've had to make will become part of our "new normal" even after 2021. For instance, recent surveys have shown that many businesses will continue to rely on home-based employees as a significant percentage of their workforce even after the pandemic is over. Telemedicine and online medical appointments, now a necessity, will increasingly be used and encouraged by doctors and health systems to better manage caseloads and costs. Communities like Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda, all across the country are recognizing the importance of wireless infrastructure to connect kids to the classroom, power the local economy, and provide government and healthcare services. The world has changed. The Cities of Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda need to change with it.

Ultra-fast wireless service and infrastructure can help facilitate essential connectivity and take it to the next level. Mobile technology is reshaping the way we live and do business, and 5G is a fundamental platform for its continued innovation. This next generation of wireless infrastructure will facilitate an entirely new type of home broadband service, giving Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda residents and businesses a new option for reliable high-speed internet access. This type of connectivity is expected to completely transform transportation and public safety. Automated and connected vehicles and transportation infrastructure will make traffic safer and move more smoothly. New augmented and virtual reality systems could help first responders, police officers, and firefighters protect our community, and more broadly, our way of life. All of this is possible in communities that have a robust and reliable communications network.

And telecommunications networks and equipment, including 5G, that comply with FCC standards are safe for communities and consumers. Radiofrequency energy used to transmit information without wires has been safely used for over 100 years. Today, the technology is used for life's daily connections — from radios and televisions to smart watches/fitness trackers and wireless headphones, Bluetooth and WiFi routers, and even baby monitors.

But to make this connectivity a reality and make Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda national "Smart City" leaders, our elected leaders need to know there's widespread public support. To build momentum to bring this cutting-edge technology to residents and businesses throughout the city, it's important your leaders see letters of support from community members like you.

Greater coverage and capacity will help ensure our future is connected. Tell Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda officials to fast-track this wireless infrastructure rollout now to open up new ways for our community to live, learn, work, and play.
Dear [Municipal Leader],

As a local community member, I'm writing to support expanded wireless network infrastructure for Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda. The benefits to people like me who live and work in these areas to local businesses and to the entire community are too great to let municipal delays get in the way:

• More infrastructure = More options — With so many of us working from home, we need more broadband infrastructure in our community, not less. With our children now using the internet to learn remotely and shared documents stored in the cloud, fast, reliable internet access is essential.

• More infrastructure = More competition and lower costs — A new entrant into Moraga's, Lafayette's, and Orinda's home broadband market will increase competition and should lower consumer costs.

• More infrastructure = Improved city services, transportation and public safety — With 5G and expanded 4G connectivity, first responders could coordinate faster, sharing vital emergency information in real-time. Smart pavement and traffic lights could cut congestion. We may even see safer streets and neighborhoods thanks to better security monitoring and smart lighting.

• More infrastructure = A powerful tool to help close the digital divide — Robust broadband infrastructure is essential to making concrete progress toward serving all residents across Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda with high-speed internet, and ensuring children and adults are not left behind in our rapidly transforming digital economy.

• More infrastructure = Lower health care costs and elevated care — Raising the potential of virtual healthcare to new levels, and making remote care even more effective and accessible to those who need it most.

This is your chance not only to deliver for your constituents, but to demonstrate thought leadership and be part of transforming our region into a technology leader. Please do whatever you can to help accelerate improved wireless infrastructure for Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda.

Sincerely,
