Stand up to Corporate Special Interests: Make Florida Housing Affordable

Rent is on the rise for Florida families already struggling to make ends meet, but corporate special interests are blocking our power to make housing affordable.

Our communities should be able to make decisions to address the high costs of living and stagnant wages in our state. Instead, corporate lobbyists are pushing laws that put their profits ahead of our needs.

In Miami-Dade County alone, six in ten working adults spend more than a third of their income on rent—a proportion higher than in any other U.S. metro area. But when Miami lawmakers tried to expand affordable housing units for low-income families in 2018, corporate developers and their lobbyists pressed for statewide laws to block localities from weighing in on the issue.

We should get to decide how to solve problems like skyrocketing rent in our own communities—not corporate special interests. Tell state legislators to keep corporate lobbyists out of the conversation.
