We Need a National High Speed Internet Policy

We spend less as a nation on telecommunications investment than many of our global neighbors, but as customers we pay higher prices for slower speeds. What's even worse, this technology is out of reach for millions of Americans, either because of price or geography.

Congress cannot ignore the growing need to invest in a comprehensive, nationwide high speed Internet infrastructure.

High speed Internet means more than smooth web videos or fast downloads. Advanced high capacity communications networks can increase democratic and civic participation, improve the delivery of health care, education, job training, public safety and other vital services.

It is simply not acceptable that we're the only industrialized country without a national policy to promote high speed Internet access.

I was surprised to learn how much slower Internet speeds are in the United States than in other parts of the world. Our country is falling behind our global competitors and I'm counting on you to change that.

Congress cannot ignore the growing need to invest in a comprehensive, nationwide high speed Internet infrastructure that will bring the benefits of the telecommunications revolution to most of our population. It is simply not acceptable that we're the only industrialized country without a national policy to promote high speed Internet access.
