Go AB2916: CA's State Buildings Should LEED the Way

  • van: USGBC-NCC
  • ontvanger: California's State Legislature & Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Summary: Existing law, the State Building Construction Act of 1955, requires all public buildings constructed after January 1, 1993, to be designed, constructed, and equipped with all efficiency measures, materials, and devices that are cost effective and feasible. The act also requires the Department of General Services to revise leases used by the state to maximize energy savings in buildings leased by the state. This bill would declare the Legislature's intent to require that all buildings owned or leased by the state meet the standards of the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
State Flag  We, the people of California, support Assembly Member Nunez's AB2916, which  sets forth the goal of maximizing energy efficiency in all state buildings, whether leased or owned, and upgrading them to the LEED Gold standard by 2012.

It took 9 years to put a man on the moon. We can do this in less than half the time!
