Plastic Free Richmond

Hello Richmond!

By now we all know the harm that can be caused by plastic bags.  It only takes a tiny change in the way we go to any shop - grocery, boutique - really - any shop, to reduce these problems! By just grabbing a couple of cotton or jute shoppers when you head out of the door, you too can make a difference.  It's really that easy.

When shops stop needing to give out plastic bags, they stop buying them.

As a Florida girl, born & bred,  most of my childhood was spent on the beaches and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico. Whilst on these swims, it was my pleasure to have surfaced not just once, but twice, next to a beautiful sea turtle gracefully passing by.  On another occasion, at the end of a rocky jetty & long day, I had a front row, private viewing of a rare Sea World style, but completely natural, porpoise jump & flip at sunset.  The number of times I have been surrounded by a school of fish, or had to pull up my feet for the passing fleet of sting rays, or had a flock of sea gulls make a water landing around me whilst out in the sea; or times I have caught a heron stealing a fish from my bucket whilst out fishing; or been pinched by a crab I had been examining.  There are simply too many to recall. Each instance helped to show me the beauty of our oceans and as such I've become a rather passionate campaigner for all things plastic free.

Plastic bags kill all of that & more every day.  (Far more than a girl and her fishing pole!)

Dear Friends,

If Kew can do it, so can we. It's time to shed the plastic & pack a shopper when we head to the markets!  It's easy & everyone can do it.  When we all stop needing plastic, shopkeepers will stop buying it.
