Demand answers from the Canadian Government on the Maple Leaf tainted meat!
Questions are being raised about recent changes made by the Canadian government to the way processed meat is inspected at the contaminated Maple Leaf meat plant in Toronto.
According to the Globe and Mail, on March 31st of this year the Maple Leaf plant became a test case for a new inspection system that made Maple Leaf itself responsible for its own food safety testing.http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080827.wmeat27/BNStory/National/homeUnder the new rules, the single Canadian food inspection agent was %u201Cpulled off the floor%u201D of the contaminated meat plant.
So was Maple Leaf entirely to blame for what happened? Or are they simply a scapegoat for the Canadian government?
We don%u2019t know because the government has kept the documents and the decision to change the way government officials inspect our food under wraps.
And are there other meat processing plants in Canada that are %u201Ctest cases%u201D for these new inspection rules? We don%u2019t know that either.
This is an issue that demands immediate answers from our government.
We need to demand that the Canadian government release all the documents related to their decision to change the way meat was inspected at the Maple Leaf plant in Toronto.
We need to demand that the Canadian government immediately disclose other food processing plants in Canada that have are currently being used as test-plants for this new system of food inspection.
We need to demand a full investigation by a third-party into whether the changes made to the food inspection rules at the Maple Leaf meat processing plant in Toronto played a role in the deaths of Canadians who consumed the tainted meat.
